JOB TITLE: Type Approval Specialist x6

SALARY RANGE: Total Annual Package (CTC) – R1,087,976.00
Purpose of the job
To ensure that all ICT equipment imported into, manufactured, supplied or used in South Africa complies at all times with the applicable ICASA technical standards; as a result, approved equipment should not cause damage to or interfere with the operation of telecommunications network or other equipment; and the operating frequencies of all Radio Equipment are in conformity with the National Radio Frequency Plan.
Key Outputs: The successful candidate will report to the Manager: Type Approval, and their responsibilities will include: ● Processing and making recommendations for the issuing, amendments and transfer of type approval certificates ● Assist in processing applications submitted to the Authority including technical specifications, test reports, user manuals and supporting compliance documentation ● Submit registered work to Finance for invoicing ● Issuing Certificates for approved equipment ● Issuing provisional letter of Authority ● Issuing Label authorisations for self-print and printing of ICASA Labels ● Publish the Official List Regulations ● Propose new technical standards for emerging technologies, revision of applied technical Standards ● Implementation of the existing technical standards in the Official List Regulations ● Revise the Type Approval Framework in order to adapt it to current and international best practices ● Implementation of the existing framework.
Qualifications and Experience: ● An undergraduate qualification in Engineering (Electrical or Electronic) (NQF Level 7 or 8) ● 8 years’ experience in the telecommunications sector, of which at least 3 years must be in Type Approval Management, or 4 years’ experience as a Type Approval Specialist.
